Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Two main texts (a de-identified version and identified version) are uploaded in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Author affiliations should include: Department, Institution, City, State/province (if applicable), Country/Region.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
  • A corresponding author is identified, including the name, email, and institution address of the corresponding author.
  • A disclosure statement includes all of the following (in order):
    1. Acknowledgments,
    2. Funding/support,
    3. Conflict of Interest,
    4. Ethics Approval,
    5. Disclaimers, and
    6. Previous Presentations.

    Responses of “Not applicable” or “None” are acceptable for any category, but no category should be left blank.
  • The abstract contains background, methods, results, and conclusions. The abstract should contain minimal specialist details, no references, and no display item citations.
  • Tables should be embedded in the main text and should be editable (not screenshots/pictures of a table). All tables should have a description and be referenced in the main text.
  • Figures should be uploaded as separate files as either PDF, EPS, JPEG, TIFF, PSD formats. Figures should not be uploaded in a word document. All figures should be referenced in the main text. All figures need a legend consisting of a short title, description of all figure components and all abbreviations should be defined in the figure caption.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the American Medical Association Manual of Style.
  • Word Count:
    - Original Research: Less than 3,000 words
    - Case Report: Less than 2,500 words
    - Literature Review: Less than 4,000 words
    - Humanities/Ethics: No word limit
    - Methods/"How I do it": Less than 2,000 words
